Project Background

The proposed Daer Wind Farm is located in the in the Lowther Hills of South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway, directly adjacent to the south/east of the Daer Reservoir. The proposed wind farm has been carefully developed following an extensive site selection and feasibility study to determine whether the land surrounding Daer Reservoir is suitable.

At the end of 2018, we installed two anemometer masts on the site, which have been used to collect information about the local wind and weather conditions. This information has helped us find the best place to put the turbines with our independent environmental consultants undertaking a range of studies to see what impact the wind farm could have on the environment. These studies demonstrated several factors that need have now been considered, this includes the terrain, landscape and bird populations. We are now at a stage where we can show you the current plans for the wind farm and how it will interact with the local, people, landscapes, birds, animals and plant life.

Public Exhibition

In light of the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19, and by closely following guidance from the Scottish Government regarding pre-application consultation, we have developed a virtual consultation room to ensure this engagement can take place. The exhibition materials that would have been on display at the public exhibition are now on display within this room. We’ve produced a number of visual photomontages so you can see what this layout would look like from key viewpoints. These are only a few locations and many more will be included in the submitted application.  We’re keen to hear what you think of our plans along with any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have. If you have any questions please contact Nicholas.taylor@rwe.com

We appreciate that not everyone will be able to view this virtual room so in that instance, please contact Nicholas.taylor@rwe.com who will arrange for an alternative method of viewing the information.

Application submitted

We have now submitted our planning application to the Scottish Government. As such, this now starts the period of formal consultation. The planning documents are listed on this page under the “Planning Documents” drop down tab. They are also available to view on the Scottish Government website at www.energyconsents..scot under application reference ECU00000740. Please send any representations directly to the Scottish Government and should be received no later than 25th June 2021, although Ministers may still consider representation received after this time.

If you have any specific questions on the proposal please feel free to email Nicholas.taylor@rwe.com.
