CO₂ to synthesis gas

The CO2RRECT project – using hydrogen for greater sustainability

The CO2RRECT research project, which was sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, was initiated by RWE Power in conjunction with Siemens, Bayer and several universities and research institutes. The aim was to find a way to convert CO2 from plant station flue gas, using hydrogen, into synthesis gas, a highly versatile raw material for industrial applications (see also our power-to-gas project). The hydrogen can be generated by a number of renewable energies. In connection with this, a flexible water electrolysis system provided by Siemens has been undergoing testing at the Niederaussem site since autumn 2012.
