The technology uses a glider to capture wind speeds at higher altitudes. The wind speed is consistently strong at altitude which enables the glider device to operate more efficiently. The Airborne Wind Energy System (AWES) is a glider that is tethered to the ground with an ultra-strong and durable cable. As the glider moves through the air, the tethered cable is wound in and out of a pully system on the ground. This constant retraction and release motion then creates electricity on the ground via a winch system and associated gears.
