DEWA wanted to evaluate the feasibility of developing a “Power and Seawater Desalination Complex”, a huge plant comprising 4 SWRO units, in total 240 MIGD* and up to 2,000 MWel by CCGT***.

RWE was appointed as an independent technical engineer by the company. Our role was to conduct feasibility and provide a preliminary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA/MEIA study) of the projects planned seawater reverse osmosis technology (SWRO**).  

* MIGD = Million Imperial Gallons per Day
** SWRO = seawater reverse osmosis is a method of desalinating seawater into freshwater using energy to force the water through membranes 
*** CCGT = Combined Cycle Gas Turbine
