Facts about the company Germany has made the fundamental decision for its society to phase out energy production from nuclear power stations by the middle of April 2023. Until the legally defined shutdown dates, RWE Nuclear GmbH’s nuclear power plants helped to maintain security of supply in Germany as a flexible partner to renewable energy sources. The Act on the Reorganisation of Responsibility for Nuclear Waste Disposal, which entered into force in June 2017, has redefined responsibilities for the decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear power plants, as well as for the disposal of radioactive waste. It stipulates that power plant operators are responsible for their decommissioning and dismantling, as well as for the correct packaging of radioactive waste. The government is responsible for providing for and financing its temporary and final storage.

Nuclear energy – from power generation to decommissioning power plants

RWE Nuclear GmbH has encompassed all nuclear energy activities of the RWE Group. With round about 1.200 employees, the company is concerned with the decommission and dismantle the plants at Biblis, Emsland, Gundremmingen, Lingen and Mülheim-Kärlich as required by law, as well as to package radioactive waste properly and the use of recyclables from dismantle. In addition directing investments. The Essen-based company is a wholly owned subsidiary of RWE AG, and its operations are managed by RWE Power AG.
